Advent - Peace

The theme for the second week of Advent is Peace.

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. His government and its peace will never end.”

- Isaiah 9:6-7

In the dictionary Peace is defined as a state of tranquility or serenity, silence or stillness. Another definition is a freedom of the mind from annoyance distraction or anxiety. That sounds pretty lovely doesn’t it?

However, the biblical explanation of what peace is, is so much better than the freedom of the mind from distraction or anxiety. The peace we are given in Jesus is such an amazing gift for us all. Jesus is called the Prince of Peace and because of Him, we have the ability to have peace with God. It is because of Jesus and His sacrifice we can have peace with God.

What a gift that is for us! We have a Prince of Peace who makes peace possible for us and that in Him, we will have peace.

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have Peace...”

John 16:33

Our world and our circumstances may not seem peaceful right now but we can rest in the fact that we have been given the greatest gift of the Prince of Peace.
